I'm heading to Mexico for Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the Dead, a celebration that unites pre-Columbian cultural practices with Catholic religious ceremony and ritual. My friend Cate and I will travel to Oaxaca in southern Mexico where the traditional celebrations are beautiful and colorful.

Our lovely respite from crowds and traffic in San Agustin Etla
San Agustin Etla, a small town about 25 minutes outside Oaxaca is home to a lovely art space housed in a former textile factory. We discovered here that if the main story of Mexico is color, the second half of that story is light, luz. Relentless at times, but also rich and powerful, the light in Mexico is truly a jewel.

There was also a lovely little church that we took a look around. Later in the evening there was to be a comparsa there, the parades with wonderful costumes. We did not make it back for that...next trip!
